The moon has just come out,
eleven miles into my day.
The future is here
even though the past isn’t done yet.
I begin to lose myself
in your trivialities,
the mythology of your ashen streets.
I know,
I know what’s coming.
From moonrise to dawn
I will stand upright against the night
defenseless
for you,
my dear Kyoto,
as you take a hammer to my heart.
